Drew Perkins is a Toronto based portrait, wedding and lifestyle Photographer. Drew was first published in the 1998 book 'from atop small shoulders' by the award winning poet Jeramy Dodds. Ever since, he has looked at the world in a different light and perspective on his personal quest to capture images and stories through the medium of photography.
He has spent many formative years in darkrooms that ranged from a musty basement of a 105 year old community mill, snazzy university darkrooms and a temporary darkroom that was covertly set up in his parents bathroom. Although he misses many tangible aspects of traditional film photography, he doesn't miss its toxic companion. For this reason alone, Drew has embraced the transition to digital photography with open arms. After re-connecting with a friend and photography mentor in early 2008, 'Drew Perkins Photography' was born and began to take on photography commissions and assignments.
Drew has been published in the University of Guelph's 'The Ontarion' and the Toronto Beach Metro. He has also been commissioned to do numerous weddings, portraits, headshots, newborns, maternity and family photos by newlyweds, real estate agents, musicians, bands, artists and proud parents. There is one constant in Drew's work... people. Whether it is using a photojournalistic style to capture candid moments throughout one's wedding day, using a modern approach to traditional on location portraiture, photographing a person in their natural environment (i.e. environmental portraiture) or simply making a portrait session fun and comfortable for kids and adults alike, Drew specializes in photographing people.
Production values aside, it's the pictures that should do the talking.
